Pecan Oak Ranch

Corn for my Horses
August 14, 2013

Ear of corn

This spring I planted some sweet corn with the expectation of enjoying the delicious, tender ears... Well as author Margaret Mitchell once said, "Life's under no obligation to give us what we expect."

The corn crop came in severely lacking kernels so human consumption was out of the question. I let the crop, which was a small one, dry in the garden and the other day I harvested the corn plants and gave them to my horses. You would have thought I gave them candy. They chomped and chewed until the corn, plant, and roots were thoroughly gone.

Next, I will be planting some carrots for both the horses and myself. It is such a delight for me and the horses to get such wonderful treats directly from my garden.

Give it a try ! ! !
